Monitoring of the electrical discharge machining process by abductive networks

The paper describes the use of abductive networks to monitor the electrical discharge machining (EDM) process. The voltage and current across the gap between the tool and workpiece are fed into the developed networks for the recognition of various pulse types in EDM in a “winner-take-all” fashion. Experimental results have shown that EDM pulses can be clearly classified even with different machining conditions. Hence, a reliable technique has been developed to monitor the EDM process.
