Current practices and future directions for adaptive digital filters in telecommunications applications

This paper considers two research areas in adaptive digital filtering where efforts are being made to improve the state of the art for high speed adaptive processing of images and image sequences, as might be encountered in digital video systems. The first area concerns the development of two dimensional (2D) adaptive digital filtering concepts for use in digital video systems, while the second concerns the guaranteeing of reliable adaptive processing through the concept of adaptive fault tolerance.
