Augmented reality supports real-time diagnosis and repair of shipboard systems

Abstract A prototype shipboard pumping system has been developed integrated with an Augmented Reality system. This system demonstrates how a service engineer can visually inspect a running system and "see" how the system is operating. In addition to stored, historical information, real-time data and analysis corresponding to the component the engineer is looking at can be viewed with the device. For example, the associated dynamic component data such as temperature, pump speed, flow rate, suction pressure, discharge pressure, cavitation state, and lubricating oil contamination data are visible. Cues are provided to the service engineer indicating potential problems and directing subsequent investigation.
