Six-month-olds recognize clauses embedded in different passages of fluent speech

Abstract Infants were familiarized with fluent speech containing target word sequences coincident with or straddling clauses. Infants later preferred new passages containing the target sequences heard as clause-coincident during familiarization and test, suggesting that prosodic cohesiveness influences infants’ encoding and recognition of speech.
