A Psychological Classification Scheme for Vocations and Major Fields

A classification scheme for vocations and major fields is presented. The classification is empirically and theoretically based, and it follows the logical principles of classificatio n Several empirical tests of the classification plan suggested that it sorts people into relatively homogeneous groups and that they have some predictable attributes. Some applications of the scheme to research and practice were also suggested. When compared with the work on aptitude, interests and counseling, the psychological classification of vocations and fields of training has received relatively little direct study, although such problems plague both practitioners and researchers in education and social sciences. Usually we have struggled along with a variety of traditional classificatory schemes with all their defects—ambiguous definitions, overlapping categones, obscure rationales, and incomplete sets of categories.
