Weed Management Studies in Fababean (Vicia faba L.)

A field experiment was conducted during winter seasons of 1994–95 and 1995–96. Chenopodium spp., Anagallis arvensis and Melilotus indica were the dominant weeds. Two weedings at 30 and 60 DAS provided an effective control of weeds. Integration of pendimethalin 0.75 kg/ha with one hand weeding at 30 DAS proved more effective than herbicide application alone. The maximum seed yield of 2670 and 4005 kg/ha of fababean was obtained in weed free plots during 1994–95 and 1995–96, respectively. Season-long weed competition caused 60 and 72% yield reduction as compared to weed free treatment in both the seasons, respectively.
