Channel characterization of a video disc system

Abstract The signal in video disc systems takes three different forms : electrical, optical and mechanical. In each of these, there are many sources of signal impairment. In this paper the three aspects of video disc systems are considered. First, based on the form of the signal, the signal channel is specified. Second, the phenomena and main sources of impairment in all three signal domains are considered ; where possible, for each noise source, a noise model is given. Finally, some experimental results on noise measurements are provided.
