SIGNIFICANCE OF SIEVE ANALYSIS

THE DIFFICULTY IS DISCUSSED OF PRODUCING AGGREGATES CONSISTENTLY WITHIN DESIRED GRADATION LIMITS TO MEET SIEVE ANALYSIS REQUIREMENTS. PARTICULAR REFERENCE IS MADE TO THE FACT THAT VARIATIONS IN GRADING WHICH WERE MINIMAL AT THE POINT OF PRODUCTION INCREASE DURING HANDLING, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN AN UNACCEPTABLE PRODUCT. A MORE REALISTIC AGGREGATE GRADING SPECIFICATION BASED ON NCHRP REPORT NO. 34 IS PROPOSED. /RRL/
