Method and apparatus for improving handover success rate

The present disclosure relates to a communication technique for combining a 5G communication system for supporting a higher data transmission rate after a 4G system with IoT technology, and a system therefor. The present disclosure can be applied to an intelligent service (for example, smart home, smart building, smart city, smart car or connected car, health care, digital education, retail business, security and safety-related service, and so on) on the basis of 5G communication technology and IoT related technology. The present disclosure can provide a method for supporting a handover and a base station performing the same, the method comprising the steps of: receiving a message including a radio link failure (RLF) report for a terminal from at least one of other base stations; and determining whether a cell, in which the terminal has tried an RRC connection re-establishment after an RLF, is a suitable cell for serving the terminal at an RLF occurrence time, on the basis of at least one of RRC connection configuration indicator information and the RLF report.
