Study on computational model of lateral dynamic impedance of single pile

A simplified mechanical model for computing the lateral dynamic impedance function of single pile in layered soils is established based on a certain assumptions and the improved dynamic model of beam-on-Winkler foundation by using the principle of soil dynamics and structural dynamics. Both non-homogeneity of soil strata and softening effect of soil layers around pile during vibration together with relative separation of pile-soil interface are simultaneously taken into account. The characteristics of the frequency-dependency of lateral dynamic stiffness and damping of pile are reproduced. It is shown through the comparative study on an example that the numerical results of dynamic impedance of pile computed by the proposed dynamic Winkler model are relatively rational. All these provide the base for the nonlinear analysis of dynamic pile-soil-structure interaction system.
