Multi-Media Instructional Support:Status, Issues, and Trends

Education is facing a broad range of challenges as we enter the new millennium with new technology, new paradigms, and new resources for learning. In response to these challenges, teachers are broadening their range of instructional methods and approaches. One area that is seeing increased attention is in the provision of instructional support for `student-centered’ and `student-directed’ learning. Many teachers are finding that `student-centered’ learning coupled with the use of technology can make the learning process more effective. This paper examines the status, issues, and trends of multimedia instructional support. Examples and experiences associated with the development of CD-ROMs and interactive websites are presented to illustrate some important considerations for the development of interactive multimedia packages. It is hoped that these considerations will result in enhanced support packages for student driven learning
