Automobile engine control system and method for the same for extending idle halt time

The present invention relates to an automobile engine control system and method for extending idling stop time which can extend the idling stop time by calculating an absolute time based on traveling information of a front vehicle, and inputting the calculated absolute speed to a speed transfer function to calculate a driver model and thus to control on/off of an engine. The engine control method includes the steps of providing the traveling information if an inter-vehicular distance is less than a preset threshold value; calculating the traveling information to calculate the absolute speed of the front vehicle; calculating the driver model which is a predicted absolute speed value of the subject vehicle based on the absolute speed; and turning on the engine of the subject vehicle if the predicted absolute speed value is equal to or more than the preset threshold value. Thereby, it is possible to reduce a load of the vehicle and provide the driver with the drive convenience.
