Preliminary Design and Optimization of 2D Supersonic Intake Using OpenFOAM

Aircraft intake is a passage for air to enter the engine, whose primary function is to capture the required amount of air from the atmosphere and pass it onto the compressor in a state suitable to its operating conditions and with a minimum loss of total pressure. Most of the compressors of gas turbine engines operate at a moderate subsonic Mach number of about 0.4 [1]. Therefore, for a supersonic aircraft with a gas turbine engine, the intake is ought to compress the supersonic flow to a subsonic speed and provide a matched air mass flow rate to the engine.
