Evaluation of splice loss between two nonidentical single-mode graded-index fibers

In this letter, an efficient method has been proposed for evaluating the splice loss between two nonidentical arbitrarily graded-index single-mode fibers caused by either transverse or angular misalignment. The power transmission coefficients at the splice are expressed as weighted sums of simple Laguerre-Gaussian functions exactly in the same form as for the simpler case of identical fibers. The present formulation is very general and reduces in particular cases to recently published splice loss models.<<ETX>>
