Hydrogen-oxygen titration method for the measurement of supported palladium surface areas

Abstract The titration by means of hydrogen or deuterium at 100 °C of oxygen preadsorbed on a supported palladium catalyst has been used to measure the dispersion of the palladium. Results agree with those obtained by X-ray line broadening and chemisorption of oxygen or carbon monoxide. The titration, which is done at pressures where a negligible amount of bulk hydride forms, has distinct advantages over the other methods.
