Are We Ready Enough to Learn from Interactive Multimedia

Abstract Interactive multimedia, or hypermedia, are a major trend of educational media use for the next century. ‘Bunkyo Museum of Literature’ was developed as a model of such a system, which integrated an existing film on to a videodisc and related the contents with different symbol systems in hypertext. Learning from this innovative medium was evaluated through classroom lectures in which the medium was used as a presentation tool. The learners’ perceived degree of participation in the lecture was found to mediate the learning process and thus affect learning. The results warned against excessive expectations for hypermedia per se.
