Traffic rate estimation for effective resource allocation in wireless multimedia networks

Recently, wireless network access demand has increased remarkably and efficient resource allocation is becoming more important. The remarkable increase of the number of mobile terminals and the decrease of cell sizes in order to accommodate the increasing demand may give rise to a higher number of transitions among cells, sectors, and spot-beam areas. As a result, it becomes more important to estimate key traffic parameters for effective resource and mobility management. It is obvious that traffic parameters give important information in local/global-optimal decision making on resource allocation. We suggest a simple and very efficient method for estimating key traffic parameters that has excellent accuracy.
