Application of simple microcomputer technology to undergraduate instruction in geography

In this paper we present the rationale for and configuration of a pc-based undergraduate educational computer facility for the analysis of spatial databases. The system allows considerable student access in G IS, remote sensing, computer cartography, and meteorology courses. The use of non-specialized hardware allows equipment-poor disciplines to provide student computing experience with modest investment. Our laboratory provides students with the opportunity to combine near-real-time data with other spatial data.
