This article about the historical evolution of technology in Neonatology emphasizes conceptual and reflective aspects concerning the impact of technology on the neonatal care process. Although technology has contributed to the survival of extremely premature and very low birth weight newborns in recent years, sometimes it reveals a mechanical and impersonal service in direct contradiction to ethical and human topics. Thus, we propose a critical and reflective evaluation of this technology in the neonatal care, highlighting its implications and adequacies towards the needs of the newborn. In order to do so, this study was based on internet data, books, and periodicals about the area. We conclude that what determines whether a technology is good or bad, de humanize, depersonalize, or fies in associated care is the way it is used. This makes improvement and updating health care professionals necessary. In this reflective exercise, it is important to rethink new ways of care using art, sensitivity, and creativity in appropriating and humanizing technology.
