A convolutional interleaver for LTE based mobile satellite systems

In this paper, we present a convolutional interleaver designed for mobile satellite communication systems based on 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard. Because of long round trip delay (RTD) of satellite systems, adaptive modulation and coding scheme cannot compensate short term mobile fading effect. For this reason, an interleaver should be employed in conjuction with adaptive transmission schemes. Considering a long RTD of 0.5 second for a geostationary satellite system, we present interleaver design to compensate short fading lasts a few milliseconds.
