The Impact of Reconfiguration Time on the Dependability of Complex Web Based Systems

Web based systems are exposed to various dependability threats that affect their availability. The dependability of the systems can be improved by using reconfiguration. We address the problem, how to predict the impact of the reconfiguration time on the availability. For this purpose, semi-Markov processes are utilized. It is demonstrated in a realistic case study that the impact of reconfiguration delays is significant. It has to be considered as a factor when choosing the reconfiguration policy.
