ENHANCING PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT CONTROL THROUGH PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT

Performance measurement is the process of measuring key production parameters against established goals and targets. Initially, these goals and targets are set to reflect management's best estimate for desired outcome. The comparison of actual performance against the preset targets and goals enables the manager to assess progress as well as identify problem areas. This paper summarizes systems and techniques that can be utilised by the shipbuilder to keep abreast of the cost, schedule, and technical performance of his construction programme.
