A statistical model for the prediction of fatigue crack growth under a block type spectrum loading

Abstract A lognormal statistical model has been developed for the prediction of crack growth damage accumulation under conditions of a block type spectrum loading in high temperatures. Both the distribution of crack length at any given life and the distribution of load cycles to reach any given crack length were predicted. An experimental test program was conducted for the verification purpose. The theoretical predictions based on the statistical model were compared to test data from twelve specimen tests for IN100, a nickel-base superalloy, generated under a block type spectrum. A good correlation was obtained between the predicted distributions and the test results.
