Systems engineering theory: What needs to be done

This paper suggests seven areas that are ripe for theoretical research in systems engineering. The areas are verification and validation; requirements; contracting; risk management; abstraction and elaboration; organization design; and finally guidance technology in the context of model-based systems engineering.
