The Zigbee standard takes the AODV protocol as a routing protocol, which hasn't provided different routing protocols for different applications. The routing protocol established according to specific topology can effectively reduce routing overhead and then make the Zigbee technology have a better performance. This paper proposes the ZFA routing protocol based on flooding and AODV. The proposed protocol has higher reliability and lower overhead than AODV. The ZFA can be used in some middle and small networks where the topology can be set up conveniently, such as time-varying equipment group monitoring system underground coal mine, hospital monitoring equipment group network system, wireless remote meter-reading system, and so on.
