Low-profile dual-band corrugated SIW antenna

This paper presents a new high gain low profile aperture dual-band antenna using substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) corrugated structures. They consist of a cavity excited by a transmission line and some SIW grooves that produce good reflection coefficient and enhanced gain. Designing proper corrugated structures and in turn making a constructive superposition of electric field of patch and grooves, high performance antennas could be achieved. Here, three simple printed circuit boards for making a resonant transmission line and specific SIW structures are used instead of waveguide feeder with grooves on metallic plate as conventional corrugated antennas. Fabrication results show that the SIW grooves significantly increase the antenna gain in dual-band antenna compared to antennas without SIW grooves.
