Title: Introduction to and Some Insights on TRIZ Systematic Innovation: An Enabler for Samsung's Number One Strategy

TRIZ is a Russian acronym for "Theory of Inventive Problem Solving". It is partially responsible for Samsung's recent years' success for being number one in market share in more than 25 products worldwide. There are of course many other strategic and managerial reasons. However, on the innovation side, the pervasive and in-depth deployment of TRIZ to identify innovative products and solving difficult engineering problems is for sure the major thrust. In addition, during the 2007-2009 world economic crisis, when all major car manufacturers lost money or even bankrupted, Hyundai was the only major car manufacturer that gained not only profit but also market share. What they did was mass introduction of TRIZ. They generated 200+ patents in 2 years through the use of TRIZ and pushed those ideas into their cars. In the talk, the speaker will briefly mention the Samsung's TRIZ deployment status while focusing on TRIZ introduction, breakthrough examples, and insights to this body of knowledge. Pointers to further studies will also be provided.
