Verification of an Adaptive Excitation Regulator on a Power System Physical Model

Abstract A digital adaptive power system stabilizer feeding into an analog AVR and a strong action automatic excitation regulator with relay forcing device commonly used in the Russian power stations have been tested on a physical model of a multimachine power system. Results of the experimentaltests, described in this paper, demonstrate that the adaptive power system stabilizer is effective and that there is no conflict between the two types of regulators. The two regulators complement each other in improving the power system performance.
