Converter station reactive power compensation and control study is a vital part of HVDC transmission system design. The objective of reactive power control scheme and strategy studies is to determine reactive device specifications for converter stations to ensure reactive power balance under all operating conditions and meet converter station reactive power compensation and balance requirements in specifications.Computation tools, such as BPA,MainC,Nimscan and RPC,etc.,are used in reactive power control scheme study to determine reactive power providing and absorbing capabilities of the AC systems in both ends of the station,as well as the principles of reactive power compensation and balance, and design and check compensation and balance schemes.Reactive power configuration and control strategies are put forward for Three Gorges-Shanghai ±500 kV DC project as the basis for control protection system and AC filter design.
