Design and characteristics of active power filter using current source converter

A current-source active power filter that consists of a current source active filter (AF) and second-order high-pass filters (HPFs) is described. A pulse-width-modulation (PWM) control method is described. It is shown that excellent total filter performance over a wide frequency range is obtained with a low AF switching frequency. The design criteria for AF and HPF, i.e. the carrier frequency of AF, the component values of HPF, and the inductance of a DC reactor, are presented. The compensation characteristics of the filter are derived from experimental results.<<ETX>>
