Application of solitons in multiplexing

Solitons [1] are solutions to a special class of nonlinear partial differential equations representing certain nonlinear systems. Solitons possess many interesting transmission properties through nonlinear systems. Here, we make use of the “interaction property”, i.e., solitons with different parameters preserve their identities after nonlinearly interacting with each other, and propose a multiplexing scheme for data communications. Theoretical analysis and numerical results demonstrate that the soliton multiplexing system offers high bandwidth efficiency, which makes it an attractive candidate for meeting the challenge of increasing demands on the electromagnetic spectrum. In addition, it also offers savings in energy and transmission security.
