Multi-channel MAC protocol for wireless adhoc networks

An improved multi-channel media access control(MAC) protocol was developed to solve the erroneous reservation problem(ERP,the hidden terminal problem(HTP and the exposed terminal problem(ETP caused by the IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol. The ERP and ETP are resolved using multiple independent channels and replacing the "RTS-CTS" double handshake in IEEE 802.11 with 4 handshakes.Simulations show that the protocol improves network throughout and provides better average delay performance. For a medium network load, the protocol improves the throughout by 25% and reduces the average delay by approximately 50%.
