Imidazole Compounds Accumulated by Purine Mutants of Neurospora crassa

SUMMARY: A procedure is given for the detection of imidazole compounds accumulated in the mycelium of adenine mutants of Neurospora crassa. Of five such compounds detected, four have been tentatively identified. The distribution of these imidazoles among the mutants investigated allows a correlation between the adenine loci and the steps of purine biosynthesis.
