Measurement of dynamic strain using a fiber Bragg grating-based laser sensor system

We characterize the dynamic response of a fiber Bragg grating (FBG)-based laser sensor system. The sensor system comprises a laser based on a reflective semiconductor optical amplifier and an FBG; interrogation of the wavelength shift is performed using a wavelength-to-power mapping with an optical filter. We demonstrate that the system is capable of detecting dynamic strain over a wide range of frequencies.
