A dual band MIMO meta-material antenna for RFID applications

This paper presents a dual band MIMO metamaterial based antenna. The antenna demonstrates dual input/output, the first one operates at 2.45GHz and the second one operates at 5.8 GHz. The two individual antennas are designed employing only one left handed unit cell. The proposed MIMO antenna has the advantage of compactness (its size is only 2.2 × 4.2 cm2). The design represents size reduction of approximately 60 % compared to conventional patch antennas operating at the same frequencies. Moreover, better than 40 dB coupling isolation is achieved between the two inputs.
