Performance-driven design of high speed receivers for wireless indoor networks

The European Union (EU) Advanced Communications Technologies and Services (ACTS) Project AC085 Magic WAND (Wireless ATM Network Demodulator) has been developing a proposal specification for future high-speed wireless indoor mobile networks. In this paper, we demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed air interface by presenting a VLSI implementation of the required baseband digital signal processing. Also, we demonstrate the requirement of an intelligent power management strategy, which clearly has to involve the data link layer protocol design.
