REB 45 1987 France p. 77-138 Catia Galatariotou, Byzantine ktetorika typika : a comparative study. — The writer discusses the definition of the term ktetorikon typikon and presents a list of such documents. She observes that they fall into two broad categories ("aristocratic" and "non aristocratic" respectively), each containing clauses and through them revealing attitudes distinct from the other's. In dealing with the aristocratic typika the writer examines areas such as the motivations behind the foundation of monasteries, the attitudes towards the lay ephoros, administration and the individual monk. In the final section of the study the writer discusses aspects of the non aristocratic typika : their attitudes towards spirituality, the family, the lay world, administration, the hermit, the monk's moral state. The study ends by a brief look at typika as autobiographical documents.
