A STUDY ON THE HIGHWAY NOISE PREDICTION MODEL APPLICABLE TO DIFFERENT TRAFFIC FLOW

The motion of the vehicles on a one-way, two-lane road is described with a continuous distribution of traffic flow; meanwhile, a new method of calculating the highway noise levels with freely flowing traffic and "jammed" heavy traffic flow is suggested on the basis of probability theory, considering the background environmental noise. From tests the calculated values are seen to agree well with the measurements on some main roads in Hangzhou and Shanghai, China. In order to overcome the limitations of many other highway noise prediction models, a new one was developed that is better able to describe traffic using the united negative exponential distribution. Applications of the method to different traffic conditions is discussed.
