Effect of CES and SMES on AGC in presence of different controllers and ramp disturbances

This paper presents transient analysis of Automatic Generation Control (AGC) with a ramp disturbance in a Thermal-Thermal two area Power System (each area contains two units), including the effect of Capacitive Energy Storage (CES) and Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES). Generally all the disturbance are taken into consideration as unit step disturbance, because it indicates the sudden change of state. Here it is assumed that the disturbance is taking place gradually rather than instantly. In this case a comparison study is done with AGC and with two other cases, i.e. AGC with CES unit and with SMES unit. In this system the PID controller is used. By the help of I, PI & PID controller strategy the dynamic responses are also studied. System modelling has been done by the help of MATLAB SIMULINK software.
