Construction monitoring and finite element analysis of large scale step-slope excavation in soft soil

The stability and deformation in soft soil excavation is the main problem due to low soil strength and high underground water level. The finite element analysis and back analysis based on the displacement data of the first grade is performed to modify the analysis parameters and to predict the displacement in the subsequent excavation in the waste storage pit excavation project in Tianjin Port. The monitoring shows that the final displacement of the slope is not beyond the preset warning value after excavation. The research provides the guidance for the following pit excavation. The practice and research methodology would be a reference for the similar project as well.
