Novel Reconfigurable Isolator

A novel reconfigurable isolator is presented for future multi-band mobile terminals. The proposed scheme employs a variable matching network (VMN) that uses only a single variable device at the common ground of the isolator. Due to its simple configuration, the circuit size of the reconfigurable isolator is compact. In experiments, the isolator achieves an insertion loss of less than 1.0 dB and a sufficient isolation loss of greater than 15 dB in three frequency bands covering from 1.85 GHz to 2.36 GHz seamlessly. The results show that the proposed isolator with VMN can be extended to multi-band operation for future mobile terminals.
