The Influence of Heat Treatment and Hardness on the Machinability of Alloyed and Non-Alloyed Medium Carbon Steels

In this study, the machinability of as-received and heat treated Ç 1040 and 38MnVS6 steels was investigated. The machining tests were carried out through single point turning tests at four different cutting speeds of 90, 120, 150 and 180 m/min, at a constant feed rate of 0.1 mm/rev and at a constant depth of cut of 1 mm. The experimental work has revealed that different heat treatment processes significantly affected the hardness, the phase morphologies, surface roughness and cutting forces.
