Fundamentals of Smart Antennas for Mobile Radio Applications

When developing standards for UMTS and FPLMTS, important issues include capacity and spectrum efficiency, which can be enhanced by antenna diversity techniques. The basic principles of these techniques are explained and, as an example, are applied to a specific UMTS air interface concept. This concept evolves from GSM by the introduction of a CDMA component in addition to FDMA and TDMA.
