Case Report: Ascites as a Presenting Sign of Peritonitis in Chronic Granulomatous Disease of Childhood

An 11.5-month-old male infant, was referred to the Children’s Hospital of Buffalo for evaluation of abdominal distention. The infant was a 7.8 lb product of a full-term, uncomplicated pregnancy, labor, and delivery, born to an 18-year-old primigravida mother. No perinatal or neonatal problems were encountered. The child remained well until presentation with the exception of two minor episodes of fever in association with upper respiratory symptoms at 4 and 6 months of age. Over the 2 months prior to referral, the parents noticed the gradual development of abdominal distention. Intermittent low-grade temperatures and loose bowel movements also occurred approximately
