Estimation of Interest from Physical Actions Captured by Familiar User Device

We propose a methodology to estimate a user’s interest in documents displayed on a computer screen from his or her physical actions. We introduce the ongoing pilot study’s results which showed a possible relationship between face approaches captured by a web camera and the user’s interest in the document on the screen. Some studies have shown that physical actions captured through the device can be indicators of the user’s interest. Our system uses a common and low impact device. We discuss the future possibilities of our research.
