Within the first-order perturbation theory the influence of the atomic core on the Stark structure of alkali-metal atom Rydberg states is investigated. A simple formula is derived which connects the energy separations at the level quasi-crossings with the parabolic quantum numbers and the quantum defects of the unperturbed atom.
