A design of circular patch array absorber based on patch antenna theory

A metamaterial absorber configured with periodically arranged metal patterns on a dielectric substrate has been studied. In the previous reports, however, the specific design method to obtain the desired absorption characteristics is not proposed. In this paper, a circular patch array absorber is designed based on the classical patch antenna design theory. As a result, the center frequency and 3 dB bandwidth of the absorber agreed with those of the antenna within the difference of 0.2 % and 5.1 %, respectively. Moreover the absorption characteristics of the fabricated absorber agreed with simulated one.
