Overview of the Eighth Text REtrieval Conference (TREC-8)

The eighth Text REtrieval Conference TREC was held at the National Institute of Standards and Tech nology NIST on November The conference was co sponsored by NIST and the Information Technology O ce of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency DARPA TREC is the latest in a series of workshops designed to foster research in text retrieval For analyses of the results of previous workshops see Tague Sutcli e and Blustein Harman and Sparck Jones In addition the overview paper in each of the previous TREC proceedings summarizes the results of that TREC The TREC workshop series has the following goals
