Reduction Methodology of Eddy Losses in Ferrite Cores for High-Frequency Transformers Based on Loss-Effective Conductivity Extraction

The eddy losses account for a significant part of the core losses of ferrite cores for high-frequency transformers. The apparent conductivity is the key parameter of the eddy loss model, which is a total effect of leakage current and dielectric losses. In this paper, the apparent conductivity is proposed to be extracted from the loss data to reflect the actual working conditions of the cores. According to the characteristics of the eddy loss model and the apparent conductivity, targeted methodology are proposed to reduce the eddy losses more efficiently. Experiments are performed to verify the accuracy of the eddy loss model based on the proposed apparent conductivity extraction method. One of the proposed eddy loss reduction method is verified by direct experiments to be effective, while others are verified indirectly.
