Eigenvalue Problems and Algorithms in Structural Engineering

Structural engineering is a predominant source of sparse eigenvalue problems. Yet the numerical analysis literature rarely addresses the full generality of the algebraic characteristics of these applied problems. We describe some of the more demanding structural engineering eigenvalue problems and the difficulties they pose for numerical algorithms.
